Another view: I can't imagine why I never received notification of your most valid reply. I'd have been most pleased to answer it then, perhaps the powers that be who control this channel may provide that answer???? We should all be most careful not to conflate issues. Perhaps in order to make a point I, myself erred to a degree. For Govts, religions and companies can not of course at this time be held to universal, commonly held principles. But perhaps in the long run, that may be the goal? I beg again to differ. KPMG is indeed tainted beyond redemption. Of course their many staff are to be held blameless, if one considers an employee "just following orders " to be blameless, well, I'd challenge that in such an environment, each and every employee ( not the "tea-girl," of course, LOL) would have or SHOULD have had the NOUS to pick up anomalous transactions, even if only partially involved in the calculations along the way. I say this as a long-ago actuarial clerk ( many times reinvented since ) who did just that, back in the day. Almost brought LonRho a spot of bother resulting. Nicely averted, is all I'm saying. Those who know better, do better. Agreed? Those who don't , can't. Acceded? So let us not excuse KPMG for employing under-qualified or race-quota employees. to appease a government no one respects. When what they should have done was stamp their foot and say NO, when they had the chance, way back then. It's a personal choice, I know. But I refuse henceforth to do any sort of business with any entity that does business with KPMG. Call it that same principle that made for a potential ruckus back in the days when I was a lowly actuarial clerk. It's called ethics and its a life-long journey.

dermatologist durbanville Then Ingrid, do the intelligent thing and deal with the individuals who committ the crimes. It is not a solution to taint entire groups with the same brush due to the actions of some individuals. As long as a group, as a whole, condems the actions of the few then you can deal with the few. So far, KPMG is NOT yet tainted beyond redemption by any intelligent measure - if it is shown the whole of KPMG were complicit then deal with that - if only some individuals (in a vast company spread across the globe), then deal with them. You will NEVER have any groupd in which all its individuals are innocent. What is your remedy In your example of Mulims and policemen? Do you advocate both groups should be "shut-down / wiped-out" rather than deal with the individuals committing the crimes? History is filled with entire groups suffering for the acts of the few and it is not pretty. We can be different.

Crumbs, Douglas Taylor, one might ask the same of you. KPMG is tainted beyond redemption, they've been at it a long time, now their game is up, exposed, that rot is undoubtedly systemic, as the records show. Of course there will be innocents , ask not for whom the bell tolls.....does it toll for thee? Similarly, one Muslim shouting allah u'al akhbar while slaughtering innocents did not bring forth a backlash......but the 1000th one did, while all others who refused to condemn the practice continued to claim their religion one of "peace". Too late now. And yes, when even one Policeman gets away with taking a bribe, very soon the whole lot must come under suspicion. Please consider, very carefully, who cast the first stone?

Surveyor General: That's harsh. What you are witnessing is folk who for years sat by in frustration NOT KNOWING WHAT they could do ( other than vote every so and so years.....that's not democracy and YOU know it) to make a difference. Things have shifted into a different sphere with the latest revelations. I admire the Author of this piece for his stance, it mirrors my own "private citizen revolt" aimed at my own bank NEDBANK ( also implicating my RA held with Old Mutual) to similar effect and of which I posted notice on this forum some days ago, with no response..... I too have threatened to shift my accounts if THEY do not act to remove KPMG. I encourage, once again, others to do likewise. Capitec are apparently untainted, according to my investigations. Do you know of any others similarly unblemished?

In the corporate spirit of CYA the provisional head has hit the query upstairs for a company supported PR response. The PR response is dependent on whether anyone can be found in the PR department that hasn't already left for 'urgent business' elsewhere.

For goodness sake try to use what brains you may have. Is every one at KPMG a Gupta acolyte? If one policeman takes a bribe dies that make the whole police force crooked? If one Muslim kills someone does that make all Muslims killers? This is the typical South African response - execute the innocent along with the guilty. KPMG appear to have rid themselves of most of the problem staff - now let the rest, the innocents, get on with business as usual. And, while we are at it, please prove to me that none of the companies firing KPMG have never done anything wrong - it seems easy to cast the first stone!

I have tried to get a response from them (Standard Bank) via their Facebook page twice - no response. My relationship with them also started with a student loan - and both my husband and I have banked with them our whole adult lives. The question is to who to change to - because the response from the other banks has been exactly along the lines of Standard Bank. Maybe Capitec or one of the smaller banks - one can check the auditors in their Annual Reports. When I raised the same issue with Bidcorp - their response was speedy. They promised to get back to me once a decision had been made, which they did. This decision was to remain with KPMG. Anyone that has shares in Bidcorp does however have the opportunity to vote against this decision by Friday 3 November ahead of the AGM on 9 November.

You definitely are missing something. Defusing revolutions 101. Place a barrel of wine every 100 metres on the route of the march and by ten o' clock your troubles are over. It took just 70 years for Marx and Das Kapitlal to go the way he predicted for the Western system of economy. He failed to look at the pocket book of the kulak. Rhetoric remains rabble rousing. Only money buys the whiskey. Hit them in the pocket book! Which is what belatedly started happening. With the spike in hand you look for the chink in the armor, usually under the left arm.

durbanville There is a much larger aspect to this story. The great majority of the population are pretty ignorant of the big issues and don’t understand what the consequences of economic meltdown are. They have been kept in a state of ignorance by a badly run government education system and the propagation of a strong tribal ethos amongst particularly rural populations, who respond largely to their cultural norms. Unfortunately their considered vote is necessary for political change to be made and unless they really understand what is going on, they remain political fodder at the beck and call of the “tribal chiefs”. Independent mass media other than that under government control is not reaching this segment of society, so the status quo remains intact, which the governing class are happy to retain. Meaningful education and communication needs to take place, but time is running out.

State capture would possibly not have happened on the scale it has, if it wasn't for the complicit enabling of companies like KPMG who didn't exercise due care as they should have. This country is in a dire financial state of affairs because of the likes of the KPMGs, the SAPS, the Mckinseys who all assisted the Guptas and their cronies to loot the country's coffers - And as South Africans we need to stand up and say no more!

Surveyor General - you know as well as I do that the politicians are protected by the captured security cluster...however complicit businesses like KPMG and their clients we can take action against. There are always private-public transactions in corruption, and I for one am happy to tackle which-ever of the two we can knock down first.

I seem to be missing something. Pray tell, what are you Neanderthals doing to remove ALL the corrupt ministers and officials serving in all spheres of government in South Africa? At best, your childish schoolboy antics are simply focusing the limelight on a mere needle in a haystack, instead of remaining focussed on addressing the real problem in this country!

Ek weet nie hoe diegene se koppe so in oorgee mode beland nie.

Dit was in Machel se werkers paradys.
