You could hardly have picked a better site -- forbes -- for "news" of this sort. 31,000 "scientists" in 20 years works out at 1550 scientists a years: a perfectly normal "lunatic fringe". Is Ing. Albert Ellul included among them I wonder? misogynist meaning

Of course not. We would be eating Ing. Albert Ellul's glyphosate boosted crops, which the said "ingineer's" crusade will have rescued from the obscurantist babblings of so many "scientists". It would help of course if Ing. Albert Ellul told us in some detail where he got his engineering training, never mind other other aspects like ruminant numbers in years gone by, their geographical distribution, their methane production and a comparison of such methane production with present ruminant production.

misogynist Sir all good and thank you for your write up. I have researched on climate change for some time so i indeed confirm what you have kindly written. What you are saying is correct and there is not one thing that effects climate and our seas. The earth passes through cycles. However Co2 emissions (and please note for those that do not know this, our oceans hold many of that as well) have indeed had an affect on the Earth's atmosphere and the speed up of climate cycles and not only that by cause larges sways in climate in the meantime. In the end, the Earth will continue to exist. Its inhabitants will not fare as much though through our actions and effects on climate.

Oceans are like a massive energy capacitor. It takes centuries for oceans to react to climatic changes. Direct sunlight penetrates a few meters, the Earth's crust which conducts heat from the earth's mantle upwards into the oceans heats up the oceans from beneath while oceans cool mostly by evaporation. The thermodynamics involved are very complicated. During the second half of the 20th century, the sun was on a Grand Solar Maximum during which solar radiation increased, its increased magnetic field resulted in less cloud cover and therefore more radiation reaching the Earth's surface, including the oceans. Now the sun is on a solar minimum which many solar scientist predict will result in decades of cooling. Fact is that our climate is a very complicated due to the main forcings involved. Increasing levels of CO2 being one of them but not the only one and not even the most important. Global cooling and global warming are cycles within cycles in sync or out of sync with others. When two or more are in sync the planet goes into a cool or warm event. The modern global warming is one of them. previous to this one we had: The Little Ice Age ~1500~1800 Medieval Climate Optimum (warm) ~1000-1300AD Dark Ages cold period Roman Warm Period Unnamed cold period Minoan Warm Period Unnamed cold period Holocene Climate Optimum (8000 years ago)-The warmest period since the end of the last glaciation (Great Ice Age -when most of the northern hemisphere was covered in mile-thick ice sheets and oceans were 120 meters below the present levels)

Thank you for your informative reply. We share the same education. I, like you, did undergraduate and graduate studies in business and law in the U.S. I've seen more graphs and pie charts in my statistical analysis classes than I care to remember. Just like an EKG, they are subject to interpretation by different doctors. When Michael Mann's temperature "Hockey Stick" graph was discredited, I went from a skeptical to a cynical about global warming. My trust is an empirical information approach. This comment is being typed in Michigan, where 15,000 years ago there would have been 50 meters of ice over my roof. It is October 31, would you believe it snowed this morning. Personally I say--thank God for global warming. Sunny and warm Malta is where I'd rather be right now. M.Galea--very good conversation.

The quoted figures are from the university of Malta. An institution I feel I know well as I graduated twice from it. I doubt they have the appetite to "fudge" such figures. However the general world temperature and its upward trend is reported by many different scientists around the world. If anything I would err on the side of caution with what humans do to affect world . Have a look at the below temperature changes (increase) since the industrial revolution as recorded by different organisations.

M. Galea---You have stated temperature figures which I can assume is derived from a source. Lately I have been reading climate scientist have been "fudging" the numbers. Many of the temperature sets submitted were erroneous either through oversight, misinterpretation---or worse--scientific fraud. When climate science research is dependent on government largess for its continuance--then "fear sells." Keeping the people afraid with an apocalyptic boogeyman, is good for more research funding.

Climate is what to expect.... AND / or what has happened over a span of time. Climate describes the weather of the world (or a particular area) over a period of time. Whilst weather is more immediate, day to day. Climate is not just what to expect, but a trend based on past and over imposed for the future. "The mean sea surface temperature in the coastal waters of the Maltese Islands has been steadily increasing at a hefty average rate of close to 0.05°C per year since the late 70s." The general world temperatures (sea / air) have been increasing. While there will always be peaks and troughs, the statistical mean shows a general upward trend.

meaning Sometimes even stupid people are correct and coincidentally agreeing with a multitude of scientists. Look at these 31,000 US scientists' declaration: Since 1998, more than 31,000 American scientists, have signed a public petition announcing their belief that “…there is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate.” https://www.forbes.com/sites/larrybell/2012/07/17/that-scientific-global-warming-consensus-not/#188080fe3bb3

Ms. Gueller, you are referring to ruminants such as , sheep, goats, buffalo, deer, elk, giraffes and camels. You know that today there are much less of these animas in the whole world than there were 200 years ago even if we take into consideration the domesticated herds.. Millions of US and European and Asian wild ruminants roamed the plains, eating grasses and belching methane, up to 200 years ago but these were practically decimated by humans. So what's your point? Do we kill what's left of them, or cull our milk and meat producing herds? Please let us live a healthy life.

What about ANIMAL AGRICULTURE????? Animal agriculture is responsible for 18 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, more than the combined exhaust from all transportation!!!!!!! Transportation exhaust is responsible for 13% of all greenhouse gas emissions. Livestock and their byproducts account for at least 32,000 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, or 51% of all worldwide greenhouse gas emissions!! WAKE UP SHEEPLE!!!!!!!!!!!

Global Warming in not working well in Malta, probably that is why what was called 'Global Warming' has been changed to 'Climate Change'. (;p) Highest temperatures ever recorded in Malta was 43.8 °C in 1999 Highest temperature this year 2017 was 38.4˚C

"According to the SAP statement, investigations into Gupta-related third parties payments, has not revealed any evidence of payment to any Transnet employees. The payments were as result of commission agreement between SAP and its suppliers." But, Transnet, why then has SAP suspended 3 of its employees following investigations into Gupta-related third parties payments? You call them SAP suppliers. Suppliers get paid for supplying goods which is not on a commission basis. You must mean agents? If SAP paid the agents a commission they must have had some interaction with you. Therefore, can you tell us who these agents were and when did you meet them? Are you happy that SAP paid these agents a 10% commission? If so, please tell us what services they rendered for this commission?

This "story" sounds like something from a spy movie but the reality is that it is true and it happened here in South Africa at a state owned entity. The lies and more lies surrounding acts of the worst possible corruption and the efforts to try and justify that it was, not is mind boggling. SAP you are clearly not coming out clear and honest on this one, please give us poor tax payer mortals the truth and nothing but the truth? It is our money that you wasted and paid to criminals - it makes you accomplices. .......and then there is Transnet with their unethical, corrupt and illegal actions. We need to see people in hand cuffs going to jail.

So if the Gupta linked companies justified receiving 10% commission they had to have done something to earn it - what was that exactly? And since we know SAP to be financially astute, they would surely have verified what those companies did to earn such handsome commissions - right?
