a) Nowhere by 2/3 majority. b) YOU never said "2/3 majority" but that's what the opposition is insisting on, although it never occurred to them when THEY had the power to appoint whom ever they wanted. It's not wrong, but, in our case, it's an impossibility. Have you seen any agreement by the opposition to anything? If, as is highly probable, they object to the person proposed what do we do then? Propose another.... and another.....and another..., and so on? Or should we just do without ? d) I would say the same thing to you. But the evidence is there for all to see.

a) I beg to differ. PCs and AGs in the UK and US are never unilaterally appointed by one person (especially a national leader) without scrutiny by an independent body or an approval of a majority of a town/city council or a national/state/provincial/regional parliament/senate. b) I never said 2/3 majority. Whilst there may be some obscure country, region or province somewhere in the world that practices it, I've never heard of them. However, that does not make it wrong. On the contrary, it makes it more democratic and the person appointed would enjoy much more confidence from the citizens, especially in a politically polarized nation/state/province/region. d) An opinion you're certainly entitled to, but far from being fact.

I don't need to research. I was involved in related matters so I know from experience how these things work in North America. As for the UK, all it took was a quick google search to confirm what I already knew.

Nice try. It's not related with politics. It's a matter of procedure. From your reply I take it as a walk over. Enjoy research.

You are either a victim of political polarization or a proponent of it. In every case that you mention, prerogative or not, such appointments are vetted and supported, otherwise they do not happen. As for being in favour of the current system, then by definition you are in favour of the PM being in complete control of the police.

Non-partisan...serraht mohhok. However you're wrong again. In the UK it's the home affairs prerogative whilst in the NY state it's the Mayor's prerogative too. ...and in Germany? Li kieku minnhekk nammetti li zlaqt fin-niexef. No politician and I stress NO POLITICIAN wants another degray as Police Commissioner. As a civilian I never was against the present system. It works around the world. My wish is to see more investment in the Police Force.

Stop your weird cultlike behaviour. It's creepy. I hate the PN's uselessness, and I hated them when they were in power, but the government should be put under scrutiny when it's in power regardless of party But you won't do that, because you and the weirdos on this comment section are a step away from wearing robes and hoods and sacrificing a goat to Joseph.

These are not national police forces. Even so, they are vetted and confirmed by other bodies. NYPD chief is chosen by the mayor, but needs majority approval from city Councillors .On top of that, city mayor and Councillors are non-partisan. UK Met chief is chosen by home affairs, but needs to be approved by London Mayor and confirmed by majority of London City Councillors... also non-partisan.

I'm fairly sure that there are many clowns on both sides. There are some solid ones on both sides too, but far too few, and what they try to say is drowned by lots of other partisan noise. The tragedy is that the clowning around, by both sides and others in Parliament, is at the expense of the "audience" who should be laughing with and at the clowns, but in this case, the clowns are laughing at the audience .

Forget it Portelli, we’re not going back to Panama. Panama was buried after the last election since those files were empty. Remember the empty files? The terroristic attack will not give your party the right to keep shooting its self in the foot with the Panama conspiracy theory.

Name one EU country where the police don't have full autonomy. Unfortunately our institutions have proved to be subject to abuse. They are not completely autonomous and are merely tools of the PM - whoever he / she is. Yes, this could have been fixed during PM times but I don't think this issue was severely tested, otherwise the opposition of the time would have been making the same arguments that the current one is.
